Departments

The City of Fridley is made up of six departments: City Manager, Community Development, Finance, Parks & Recreation, Public Works and Public Safety. Each department specializes in a variety of related services that assist our residents, businesses and visitors.

City services are provided by staff that include full-time, part-time and seasonal employees, as well as volunteers.

All six departments work together to fulfill the city's vision of being a community that is a safe, vibrant, friendly and stable home for families and businesses.

City Manager

The City Manager is the administrative head of the City who oversees the functions of all departments and is the primary liaison between the City Council and City staff.

Community Development

The Community Development Department is responsible for planning and zoning, building permits and inspections, rental licensing, and housing and redevelopment programs.

Employee Resources

The City of Fridley employs more than 150 full-time employees and a variety of part-time or seasonal employees to serve the city. We also employ up to 40 paid on-call firefighters.

Finance

The Finance Department manages the financial and accounting functions of the city. The department develops and coordinates the city's plan, policies, procedures and objectives pertaining to the city's budget.

Housing and Redevelopment Authority

HRA projects are designed to enlarge the tax base, create jobs, and create vital, attractive businesses in blighted or underdeveloped areas of the City.

Parks and Recreation

Public Safety

The Public Safety department consists of two divisions, Fire and Police, that work together on emergency management, community outreach, crime and fire prevention, and more.

Public Works

The Public Works Department is responsible for engineering, design and maintenance of City streets, sidewalks, parks, water, sanitary and storm water utility systems, City Hall and City Garage, and maintenance of equipment.
