Parking

According to Fridley City Code, Chapter 506.05, from November 1 - April 1 each year, it is a violation to park any vehicle on city streets from 2-6 a.m.

It is also violation to stop, park or leave standing a vehicle in such a manner as to impede the plowing or removal of snow, ice or waste from public streets or highways, regardless of date or time. Violators will be tagged and towed, and subject to storage charges.

Vehicle Removal

Whenever it shall be found necessary to the proper direction, control, regulation of traffic, plowing and/or the removal of snow, ice or waste, or maintenance or improvement of any highway or street to remove any vehicle standing on a highway or street in the City, then any Police Officer is authorized to provide for the removal of such vehicle and have the same removed to the nearest convenient garage or other place of safety. Any vehicle stopped, parked or left standing on any highway or street in violation of law and removed as provided in this language, may be removed upon order of a Police Officer and the cost of removal and storage of the same charged to the owner of the vehicle as well as the person causing such violation.

Fridley City Code, Chapter 205, requires all driveways to be hard-surfaced. All vehicles must be parked on a hard-surfaced driveway. If located in the front yard, recreational vehicles, boats and boat trailers must also be parked on a hard surface.

The Abandoned, Junk or Unsafe Motor Vehicles Code (Chapter 114) is enforced jointly by the Public Safety and Community Development departments. Jurisdiction is based on whether the vehicle is located on public or private property.

Report a junk or abandoned vehicle

To report a junk or abandoned vehicle:

• On private property (at a business, housing unit, etc.), please contact Code Enforcement online or at 763-572-3593.
• On a public property (city street, park, etc.), please contact the Fridley Police at 763-572-3629.

What is considered a junk vehicle?

Any vehicle being stored outside which is not currently licensed, lacks vital component parts, or is not located on a hard surface parking area is considered to be a junk vehicle.

What is considered an abandoned vehicle?

Any vehicle illegally located on public property for a period of more than 48 hours or any vehicle located on public property that is missing vital component parts is an abandoned vehicle.

City Street Parking

Per City Code Chapter 506.13, no person shall park or leave standing a truck tractor, semi-trailer, bus, manufactured home, park trailer, travel trailer, or truck having a licensed gross weight over 12,000 pounds, whether attended or unattended, upon the public streets in any residential district unless in the process of loading or unloading and then only for such period of time necessary to load or unload.

Residential Parking

One large commercial vehicle having a licensed gross vehicle weight over 12,000 pounds may be parked on property in any residential district provided it meets the following requirements:

• The owner or operator of the vehicle must reside on the property.
• The vehicle shall be parked on a hard surface driveway in compliance with the applicable zoning district requirements.
• Noise from idling the engine shall not exceed standards provided for in City Code, Chapter 124.
• The vehicles' engine must not be idled for more than 30 minutes in any one hour period. In no circumstances may the engine idle for more than two periods lasting 30 minutes each, in one 24-hour period.
• The permitted vehicle shall be parked at least ten feet from the front property line.
• Under no circumstances may more than one large commercial vehicle be parked on residentially zoned property.
