Are you passionate about your community and the outdoors? Adopt a Fridley park!

The City of Fridley is looking for community members, organizations, and businesses to adopt a park! Community members and groups will work alongside City of Fridley Park and Recreation staff to help keep our city parks clean and beautiful. You can make a difference in Fridley parks!

Who Can Adopt a Park?

The Adopt-A-Park program welcomes community members and groups to adopt a park including residents, neighborhoods, schools, community groups, faith-based organizations, and businesses. Youth volunteering under the age of 18 must be supervised by an adult.

What happens after I submit an application?

City of Fridley staff will review your application. After you have been approved to adopt a park, you will receive a short training with Fridley Parks and Recreation staff to learn more about your responsibilities and your adopted park. You and members of your group will also have to sign a Volunteer Expectations and Liability Form.

As a thank you to all participants in the Fridley Adopt-A-Park program, there will be a sign dedicated to you/your group for the duration of your involvement in the program.

What parks can be adopted?

Fridley has over 30 different city parks available for adoption. Check out the Interactive Adopt-A-Park Map to see which parks are available for adoption, and which groups and families have adopted which parks. Springbrook Nature Center, the Little League fields, and Anoka County Parks are not available for adoption.

What responsibilities are involved?

Volunteers will be responsible for picking up litter, removing weeds, maintaining the area around the park sign, and reporting any vandalism or safety hazards to parks staff. Responsibilities may vary from park to park. Adopting a park is a minimum one-year commitment with four clean-ups per year.

How can I apply to adopt a park?

You can apply three different ways:

  2. Download and complete the Adopt-a-Park Application(PDF, 2MB): Print then mail or deliver to Fridley City Hall, 7071 University Ave NE, Fridley, MN, 55432
  3. Call Fridley Parks and Recreation at 763-572-3570 to apply.

Adopt-A-Rain Garden

The City is also looking for community members and organizations to adopt a rain garden! Rain gardens help improve the water quality and provide pollinator food and habitat.

What Rain Gardens Can be adopted?

Fridley has four rain gardens available for adoption. The rain gardens available for adoption are:

  • Altura Park Rain Garden (adopted)
  • 3rd Street and 49th Avenue Bio-swales
  • 3rd Street and Horizon Drive Bio-swales

How can I apply to adopt a rain garden?

The application process for adopting a rain garden is the same as adopting a park. When you are applying, select the desired rain garden you are interested in adopting instead of a park. You can apply 3 different ways:

  1. Fill out the online Adopt-a-Rain Garden Application.
  2. Download and complete the Adopt-a-Rain Garden Application(PDF, 2MB): Print then mail or deliver to Fridley City Hall, 7071 University Ave NE.
  3. Call Fridley Parks and Recreation at 763-572-3570 to apply.

What responsibilities are involved?

Adopt-a-Rain Garden volunteers will be responsible for cleaning out the rain garden inlet, weeding the garden, and plantings with City provided plants. After you have been approved to adopt a rain garden, you will receive a short training with the City’s Environmental Planner. Adopting a rain garden is a minimum one-year commitment with four clean-ups per year.
