Annual Street Maintenance Project
The City of Fridley’s 2023 Annual Street Maintenance Project will include 3.5 miles of crack sealing and 1 mile of seal coating. The project is anticipated to start in the summer. Once the construction schedule is confirmed with a contractor, property owners adjacent to the project areas will be notified through a mailing and the schedule will be posted on the website. A map of the streets to be crack sealed and seal coated is provided below.
57th Avenue and 7th Street will be crack sealed and then seal coated.
Rice Creek Terrace, Monroe Street, Brookview Drive, 68th Avenue, and 67th Avenue will be crack sealed in the Rice Creek Terrace neighborhood along with 64th Avenue, Arthur Street, Camelot Lane, and Squire Drive in the Harris Lake neighborhood.
Crack sealing the roadway is a preventative maintenance measure that involves cleaning out cracks and sealing them with an asphalt emulsion. Sealing the cracks prohibits moisture from infiltrating the roadway and causing damage.
Seal coating is a common preventative maintenance activity that involves spraying liquid emulsions on the surface of the existing pavement followed by a cover of aggregate.
If you reside or do business on one of the streets to be seal coated, please keep vehicles off the street during the weekdays (7:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m.) until seal coat operations are complete.
During the work, driveways will be inaccessible for a period of about thirty minutes or less. Signs will be posted to keep traffic off specific streets until the contractor completes the work. Please obey signage and flaggers for your safety, workers' safety, and to prevent damage to your vehicle. This will allow the contractor to complete the work more quickly, and cause you less inconvenience due to this maintenance work.
Please avoid sudden stops or starts on the freshly seal coated streets. This will keep the work in good condition and reduce the need for future street maintenance. Please note the pavement markings will be repainted after the seal coating is complete.
