University & Central Avenue Development - Phase II

MnDOT Invites Community to University/Central Avenue Study Meetings July 12-28

Share Your Vision for University and Central Avenues! MnDOT will hold 8 public meetings (4 in-person and 4 on Zoom) from July 12-28 to hear from residents. MnDOT wants to get reactions from people and businesses on new concepts that are being developed to improve safety for people who walk, bike, and drive along these roads. Your voice will make a difference in the future of these roads and how they support our community. Visit the study webpage to find a meeting near you

The City of Fridley is hosting one of these meetings on Tuesday, July 12 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at City Hall.

Project Information

The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is launching a Planning and Environmental Linkages (PEL) study to develop a future vision for University Ave. (Highway 47) and Central Ave. (Highway 65) from Northeast Minneapolis to the Northtown Mall. The study area passes through the cities of Blaine, Coon Rapids, Columbia Heights, Fridley, Hilltop, and Minneapolis—a total of 20 corridor miles.

A PEL is a tool used to create efficiency in transportation project development. It considers environmental laws and engages resource agencies, stakeholders and the public.

The feedback from community workshops the City of Fridley held in 2019 are being incorporated into recommendations from MnDOT. You are encouraged to continue providing yoru feedback throughout their study.

Provide Your Feedback

An online survey and interactive comment map will be available on October 14 at UniversityCentralVision.com. MnDOT will also host virtual open houses to speak directly to study staff on Tues, Oct. 27 and Wed Oct 28. More information can be found on the webpage when it launches on October 14.
