Activities and Programs

Preschool Activities

Spring Evening Sports - Ages 3-5

Participants must be ages 3-5 by the start of the program

These programs are designed for kids who want to learn basic skills while being active and having fun! Instructors focus on teaching age-appropriate fundamentals while encouraging teamwork, sportsmanship and positive social interaction. All equipment is provided.

Summer Evening Sports - Ages 3-5

Participants must be ages 3-5 by the start of the program

Youth instructors will focus on teaching children age-appropriate fundamentals while encouraging teamwork, sportsmanship, and positive social interaction. All equipment is provided.

ROCKS Little Pebbles Camps - Ages 4-5

Kids ages 4-5 are invited to get a taste of our summer ROCKS program with our Little Pebbles Camps!  Each week includes play time, games, and crafts to get both their bodies and imaginations moving.  Choose from two exciting explorations - come with us to explore life as a ninja or to go back in time to explore dinosaurs. 

Ninja Explorers (Ages 4-5)
Becoming a ninja explorer is all about challenges! We'll challenge the mind and body in age-appropriate activities including obstacle courses, crafts, experiments and play! This class will build confidence and teamwork skills. Participants must be ages 4-5 by the start of the program, as well as bathroom independent.

Dinosaur Explorers (Ages 4-5)
Time to blast into the past as we take on the dinosaur era. Kids will be able to use imaginative play, creativity and curiosity to explore dinosaurs such as digging up fossils, going on a dinosaur hunt, and might even become dinosaurs themselves! Participants must be ages 4-5 by the start of the program, as well as bathroom independent.


Family Open Gym

Bring the family and get the wiggles out with a variety of activities. This is a perfect time for parents/caregivers and children to have fun and play as the weather turns cold outside. Enjoy free play with a wide variety of recreational equipment including, balls, hoops, scooters, jump ropes, music and more!

No pre-registration required. (Requires at least one adult over the age of 18 and one child under the age of 18 to participate).

FEE
Drop‐in fee: $2 per child or $4 per family
5 visit Punch Card: $5 per child or $10 per family
(Family is defined as 1-2 adults and 2+ children)

Elementary School Activities

After-School Activities - Gr. K-4

The following classes are offered after school at Hayes Elementary School from 3:45 ‐ 5:15 p.m. to youth in grades K‐4 (unless noted otherwise﴿. Snacks are provided before class. Recreation leaders will meet participants in the cafeteria at dismissal time. Stevenson students will meet our Recreation leader at the bus loading area and will be transported to Hayes. For students not attending Hayes or Stevenson, drop‐off is at 4 p.m. at the Hayes cafeteria. Parent/caregiver pick‐up is in the Hayes cafeteria at 5:15 p.m.

Note: If your child needs to be transported from Stevenson Elementary to Hayes Elementary, please select the transportation option when registering. Transportation is NOT provided after class - all participants must be picked up at Hayes.

Glow Dance Party 

Fri. March 14 | 6:30-8:30 p.m. | Hayes Elementary Gym 

Join DJ Ms. Jennie for a dance party! Enjoy games, prizes, craft, a photo op, and more! We require adults and children to attend together. Registration required for all family members three and older.

Safety Camp (Gr. 2-4)

June 24 & 25, 2025 | 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. | Civic Campus 

Join Fridley Police, Fire & Recreation to learn about good safety practices while having fun, including a behind the scenes tour of the police and fire departments! Kids will also learn from our partners from Northstar Search & Rescue, The Raptor Center, MN DNR, Allina Health, Springbrook Nature Center and more. Safety topics include fire, seat belt, animals, weather, electrical, bicycle, first aid, water & 911. All campers will participate in our end of camp graduation ceremony. Included in the registration fee is a bike helmet, t‐shirt, tote bag, and daily lunch/snacks. Registration is open to children who were enrolled in Grades 2 - 4 in the 2024-25 school year.

Make a pair of small notebooks with embroidered paper covers. The notebooks are 3×5 inches each and stitched at the top to make a ledger style book. You will learn an embroidery stitch called the sorbello stitch to embellish the covers.

Classes meet weekly for four sessions. Classes accommodate skill levels from Beginner to Advanced.

Live Play & Coaching - Coach watches game, offers performance tips.

Clinics

Clinics meet for a 1-2 day weekend session. Clinics are intended to introduce brand new players to the game. Beginner skill level.

Court Rentals

Indoor Pickleball Court Rentals
Looking to play Pickleball this winter? Fridley Recreation will be offering indoor court rentals at the Hayes Elementary School Gym. Balls and paddles are available. $15/hour (one hour minimum)

Reservations
 Register online or by calling Fridley Recreation at 763‐572‐3570. Reservations must be made at least one full week in advance.

Basketball

Leagues are offered at both a competitive and recreational skill level. Individual and team registrations available. Team Roster Min/Max: 5/12


Bean Bag Toss

Teams are made up of two players. League consists of double header games. Both individual and team registrations available.


Indoor Volleyball

Indoor leagues are offered at both a competitive and recreational skill level. Individual and team registrations available. Team Roster Min/Max: 6/12.


Sand Volleyball

Outdoor sand leagues are offered at both a competitive and recreational skill level. Individual and team registrations available. Team Roster Min/Max: 6/12 


55+ Golf 

Teams are made up of 2 individuals. Players will be paired up, unless you indicate a specific partner at time of registration.


Pickleball (Ages 20-40)

Self officiated. Individuals will register and be placed in doubles games with players of similar skill level

A variety of special events are held each year throughout the city, including the Civic Campus and Springbrook Nature Center.

Fridley Youth Sports Assoc.

Fridley Youth Sports Association (FYSA)

Fridley Youth Sports Association (FYSA) promotes youth sports in Fridley, providing opportunities for all youth to participate in competitive and recreational team sports. FYSA is a non-profit organization relying solely on parent volunteers. Current sports offered through FYSA include Baseball, Basketball, Football, Softball and Soccer.

Spring Lake Park Lacrosse Association (SLPYLA)

Minneapolis Titans Youth Hockey

The Minneapolis Titans Youth Hockey program is dedicated to developing young hockey players in and around the Twin Cities. Kids from Minneapolis, North St. Paul, Columbia Heights, Fridley, and Brooklyn Center, Minnesota are welcome to join! Registration, season information, learn to skate program, and more can be found on their website.
