Filing for Office

The City of Fridley will have two offices in 2020: Mayor and Councilmember-at-Large. 

If more than two candidates file for one office, a Primary Election for Mayor or Councilmember-at-Large will be held on August 11, 2020, to narrow the candidates to two. The two candidates receiving the most votes will move forward to the General Election on November 3, 2020.

Note: You must be a resident of the City to file for office.

How to File

The Fridley City Charter, Chapter 4, requires a $10 filing fee and Nomination Petition signed by a minimum of ten registered voters during the filing period. Please see the Candidate Filing Packet below for more detailed instructions and all required forms.

Filings for office open Tuesday May 19, 2020 at 8:00 am. The last day to file for office Tuesday June 2, 2020 by 5:00 pm. Ways to file:

  • In person at City Hall;
  • Email scanned documents to clerk@fridleymn.gov and mail a check for the $10 filing fee to the City Clerk’s Office, 7071 University Avenue NE, Fridley, MN 55432.

Campaign Signs

Campaign signs are an important part of the campaign process. Placement of campaign signs is regulated by state, county and City laws and ordinances. This information will assist candidates and supporters to correctly place campaign signs within the City.
